Sustainability for OMP

Respect for our environment has always been on top of O.M.P. priorities.

Our company has got 14001 certification since 2001. In a continuous improvement, we have implemented our system in order to reduce our environmental impact.

All our activities are based on the reduction of waste. In those cases where this is not possible, we try to increase the percentage of recyclable waste.

In 2013 we produced 1.375.000 kg of waste. 72% of this waste was to be recycled. One of our decisions taken to reduce waste was to replace plastic water bottles in our refectory with a beverage dispenser using washable glasses. In this way we will no longer produce 31.000 plastic bottles per year, which corresponds to a 527 kg waste reduction.   Waste Recycling Graph

O.M.P. particularly focuses its attention on recycling of those products with high environmental impact, such as oils and emulsions used during machining.

We have three briquetting machines, one for cast iron and two for aluminum, strategically installed in the relevant departments.
The chip output from machine tools and work centers is sent to two 220 bar pressing machines, creating ingots and extracting the emulsion with a 180 kg/hour treatment capacity.
The briquettes that do not require treatment are directed to the recycling process in the steelworks (cast iron) and in the refinery (aluminum).
After that, the emulsion contained in the hoppers is lead into a recycling plant, at first going through a special filter paper retaining big impurities. Then a skimmering in the hot recycled liquid eliminates superficial oil and transfers the filtered emulsion into the tank of the clean. Everything is controlled by a PLC ensuring maximum accuracy and safety of the process, while weekly controls (Monday and Friday) enable us to check the conductivity level of the product.

This is a basic process for waste and cost reduction, steadily improving.

O.M.P. not only pays attention to the reduction of waste, but also to energy saving through new technologies.

On part of the company there are solar thermal panels, providing energy to our refectory and locker rooms.

Moreover, photovoltaic systems on our production departments, provide a lot of solar energy and making us save CO2 emissions and money, as well.

Improvement policy together with respect of the environment make O.M.P. a healthy and competitive company in every way.
